Default Guild Wars and Superfetch

Just a comment out there for all you Vista owners who hadn't already realised. I've been wondering why on first booting my machine the hard drive light thrashes for a few minutes, looking at the process explorer shows svchost.exe reading alot of data from gw.dat

Found out that what is actually happening is the Vista is caching Guild Wars. Superfetch basically analyses your computing habit and when you first boot it caches into memory the programs that you most use (enables much faster booting speeds).

However, I'm guessing that when they had Superfetch in mind they didn't expect to come up against a game with a 3.5Gb main file!

You can disable Superfetch by running services.msc, select the service then disable, however it might affect the startup times for some other programs.

Yep, I disabled mine as well (net stop superfetch in command line and changing EnableSuperfetch value in the registry from 3 to 0). It was furiously trying to cache the gw.dat and also the Oblivion data files. I have a Raptor HDD, so any unnecessary loading like that is pretty annoying. I wonder why they couldn't make a regular checkbox to turn the thing off.
